Date Two: Checking Out Some Art {52 Dates with My Husband}

When I first brought up the idea of a weekly, intentional date night to Gene, one of the first things he asked was "can we afford it?" We decided to make our weekly dates a financial priority in our budget, but I also vowed to find dates that wouldn't break the bank. This weekend we had a pretty close to free date day and had so much fun! We headed over to the Oceanside Museum of Art! It also just so happened that the museum is free for active duty military and their dependents! We bought a family membership to save on events that they host (like a date night coming up at the end of the month!) and to get into openings for free!

The art museum is about 40 minutes from us, but from where we live that's not too bad of a drive to civilization. There were several exhibits that we were able to look at, but my favorite was Quilt National! Below is a sneaky little instagram picture featuring my absolute favorite piece:

Checking out the quilts
That quilt was by a German artists who used scraps from old shirts for the entire piece. It was stunning to sit and look at all the tiny triangles that made up each pinwheel! I was fortunate enough that there were information cards featuring this work on them for our 52 Dates Journal!

There were some interesting pieces and some interesting exhibits. It looks like they're switching to new exhibits in February, so future dates to the museum will definitely be happening! We finished with lunch at a new restaurant in Oceanside: Fratelli's! It's a little Italian place that was almost empty when we got there around 2, providing a nice quiet atmosphere! We had a pepperoni pizza which soon became our favorite pizza... ever!

Also: I've begun working on my smashbook pages for this date! Here's a sneak peek:

Museums are such fun outings and can be perfect day dates! Next weekend we head to another museum! Stay tuned!

I have been a reader of your blog for a few months now, and I just wanted to tell you that I absolutely LOVE the 52 dates idea. I think it is so cute. I wish that I could find the time to date my husband the way that you two do. Keep them coming, because if there is ever a break in working full time and having a toddler, I will have some great ideas :)
