Date Thirteen :: A Most Romantic Outing

Over the weekend, we decided to shut down and get away from the world. We packed our bags up and headed over to where the world doesn't even exist around us! A place where the only sounds you heard were the rustling of leaves in the tree above you, the wind blowing through the overgrown grass, and the detonation of artillery by the Marines down the road. Yup: we packed some snacks and hit the trails for a romantic, quiet picnic!

Turns out, without the dogs stopping to sniff everything, we hiked the hill/mountain in about 25 minutes in the sweltering heat (high 80's!) and found this gorgeous tree to set up our picnic underneath! There were no distractions: no phones, no other people, no dogs barking and sniffing!

Don't be jealous of this awesome shot created by placing our camera on a down tree because I didn't want to lug the tripod!
We had some snacks including some trail mix, some Cliff bars, some homemade sweet potato chips, and of course- plenty of water! We sat under this beautiful tree listening to the sound of silence, talking about everything under the sun, and enjoying the cool breeze. We even managed to lay down, cuddle a little, and possibly take a little nap. No kidding. I think the hawks maybe thought we died.

It was such a nice break! Well rested, we continued out venture and made our way back down to the car! This place though, in the middle of Camp Pendleton, is what I will miss most about leaving this place! It amazes me to find a little piece of heaven tucked into the middle of a booming place! (That pun was not intended but golly, it was funny, right?)
