Gene and I headed on down to San Diego and Wild Willow Farm for a fun little 5K followed by a chili cook-off and brewfest! We got there early (about 7:15 or so) and it was CHILLY! I wish I could say the temps stayed cool through the run, but the closer to that 3.1 mile mark we got the hotter it got! I'm getting ahead of myself though! When we got to the farm we were able to walk around a bit after checking in!
Awesome produce graffiti on the bathroom at the farm!
The main office for the farm!
Neat little row of sunflowers and pumpkins growing!
There were roosters all over the farm!
This fella was out favorite! Full of personality!
If you look closely you can see people WAY ahead of me.
Of course we had to stop for a picture!
All those little homes on top of each other are located in Tijuana, Mexico!
We finished at 58:38. I'll take it with 4 stops, teamwork, and terrain we conquered for the first time! Of course, at the finish line we were able to get a little handmade bowl and five tickets to the chili cook-off!
Every 5K should end with chili!
(1) a pretty delicious pumpkin black bean chili which I ended up voting for!
(2) some crazy organic, chock full of beans and tempah (whatever that is!), and veggies topped with sour cream and chives chili (which was good, but lacking that something I was looking for)
(3) a pepper chili made by a father and daughter duo! It was soupier than I like my chili, but delicious and filled with various types of peppers, garden fresh tomatoes, squashes and green beans! Gene voted for this one!
We had five tickets- we each had two bowls of the pumpkin and two bowls of the pepper chili! We did not try a chili named "chili en fuego!" With that, we headed on home to nap it off! It was a great experience for us in trail running AND: we finished and didn't finish last! Mission, accomplished!
